Franchising is a business relationship between an experienced operator (the franchisor) and the inexperienced, independent (the franchisee), whereby the franchisee is given:
- the exclusive right within a limited & defined area to the use of the franchisor's brandname (trademark)
- the exclusive right within a limited & defined area to the use of the franchisor's logo and intellectual capital
- the right to participate in the Franchisor's marketing program
- the right to market the Franchisor's services and
- the right to the use of proven methods of doing business
- for a fixed period of time.
Franchising encapsulates the positives and minimizes the negatives of starting up a new business and is recognized as being an easy way for an entrepreneurial-minded individual to own and run his/her own business. |
